Van Gogh’s Vase with Red Poppies and Daisies sold for £38.7 Million at Sotheby’s and was created at the French home of his doctor just months before his death in 1890 and was one of the few works he sold during his lifetime. The various versions and replicas remain much debated among Van Gogh scholars’ (source National Gallery London). This is a very interesting question actually. As I’ve said above,Van Gogh painted a series of 12 Sunflowers (Tournesols) on canvas. The most commonly referred to Sunslower paintings are the seven he painted while in Arles in 1888 – 1889. There are actually two series of Sunflowers though. The first series depict sunflowers lying on the ground. This was executed in 1887 in Paris. Please look at the Sunflowers painting above.
